Poetry

I chose a songwriter, as I believe a true songwriter is a poet with music added to the lines. Dave Matthews, of the Dave Matthews Band is an extremely good poet/songwriter. His background is very cool, born in South Africa, he moved all over before he even began his career, including New York, Cambridge, and Charlottesville. Fleeting Johannasburgh on the second stint he lived there to escape the military requirement right out of high school led him to America again, and the embarkment of his music career. There are many interviews of him online, television, magazines, anywhere really as he is a very succesful recording artist. There were real no surprises when seeing his interviews as I have followed him for many years now. I feel people must experience this poet because of his love for love, and passion for passion. He writes things about love, happiness, and sadness but sheds a light on them with passion and lightheartedness that makes his poems come to life and has the ability for most to put themselves within his lines. Love and happiness make up the majority of his songs and in his sad ones he makes sure he writes them as a warning not be sad, mean, greedy or petty.

The Space Between
You cannot quit me so quicklyIs no hope in you for meNo corner ycould squeeze meBut Ive got all the time for you, loveThe space between, the tears we cryIs the laughter keeps us coming back for moreThe space between, the wicked lies we tellAnd hope to keep us safe from the painWill I hold you again? These fickle, fuddled words confuse meLike will it rain today? We waste the hours with talking, talkingThese twisted games were playingWere strange alliesWith warring heartsWhat a wild-eyed beast you beThe space between, the wicked lies we tellAnd hope to keep us safe from the painWill I hold you again? Will I hold you...Look at us spinning out in the madness of a rollercoasterYou know you went off like the devil in a churchIn the middle of a crowded roomAll we can do, my loveIs hope we dont take this ship downThe space between, where you smile and hideWhere youll find me if I get to goThe space between, the bullets in our fire fightIs where Ill be hiding, waiting for youThe rain that falls splashed in your heartRan like sadness down the window into your roomThe space between, our wicked liesIs where we hope to keep safe from painTake my handcause were walking out of hereOh, right out of hereLove is all we need dearThe space between, whats wrong and rightIs where youll find me hiding, waiting for youThe space between, your heart and mineIs a space well fill with timeThe space between...
